Find the best Southampton walks. The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional resource for all walkers, hikers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to leader led walks to any really arduous walks within the Thornhill area.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

The Range, Antelope Park

Antelope Park, Bursledon Rd, Southampton SO19 8NE, UK – 023 8043 9475

They have lots of things for the home and quite good value for money but the checkouts can be slow when it's busy. Many items are not priced up, which is a shame because it makes a purchase decision much more difficult and shopping here less fun and more of a chore. Seasonal stock changes are interesting to see and browse through for gifts and ideas. Parking is free and the carpark is quite well laid out. Dedicated disabled bays are closest to the store for convenience. A huge improvement over the Winchester road sister store.

I always like coming to this shop due to it's huge selection of products. Nice little cafe shop upstairs, reasonably priced and friendly staff. The is not a massive choice and the quality of the food is mid range, but this is excellent if you are planning longer stay in this shop. I always have at least a coffee there. Next to it is a customer's toilet, clean but could do with a bit of diy and modernization. Big car park with disabled spaces. Trolleys available but you need a pound coin or a token to realise them. At busy periods you might find to wait for staff in the fabric section to cut the fabric for you. The staff is polite but not really happy and bit miserable, but not rude at all. Helpfulness is hit and miss, depending on which member of staff you happen to talk to. The garden section and outside has a lot to choose from and the prices and much more lower than any garden centre in the area. I would say that most of the products are easy to find, although I found few items in unexpected places. The overall quality is on a low side but the price is what drives it. Overall I would recommend this shop, but you have to be patient as they could do with more staff on the shop's floor and at the checkouts.

The Lure Lodge Ltd

Homebase - Southampton Hedge End

Unit 1, Hedge End Retail Park, Tollbar Way, Southampton SO30 2UH, UK – 0345 640 7104

It was the cheapest place I could get the light fitting I wanted. A few pounds cheaper than the nearest price. The shop is quite spartan which didn't bother me because the light fittings are near the entrance and checkouts. The member of staff that served me was polite and chatty. Free parking with too many spaces to choose from make this slightly out of the way shop worth seeking out if price is king for you.

Great to have such friendly and helpful staff

Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the UK. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks.

Crucially you can also find walks France, Spain, Norway, Portugal and Australia!
