Hotels

Hilton at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton

Botley Rd, West End, Southampton SO30 3XH, UK – 023 8202 0900

Overall the hotel has great facilities and the food is good however the service lacks. The staff seem to lack the personal touch and not 1 member of staff really engaged in any conversation. The executive lounge once was the highlight of my stay however the member of staff that was there last night spent most of her shift behind the back area. Once this hotel had friendly engaging team members but sadly no longer the case. Go for the spa and restaurant but don't expect a 5 star service

Very nice hotel. The room was very clean and spacious. The restaurant food is very nice and the staff are kind and helpful. We also visited the spa which is great. The treatments are very relaxing and conducted in a professional manner.

Holiday Inn Express Southampton

Botley Rd, M27, JCT.7, West End, Southampton SO30 3XA, UK – 0871 942 9037

Stayed for a night before going on a cruise and perfect for this. As you would expect a clean and comfortable room with air con which was very welcome. Breakfast was nice and well stocked. Staff were friendly and we had a couple of hours between check out and boarding, asked if we could hang around in the bar which was fine and they even gave us the TV remote so we could make ourselves comfortable. Will stay again next time we head out.

The hotel was clean and well appointed. The family room that we book had a bed and a sofa bed. When we arrived there was only 2 towels for 4 people and no spare bedding for the sofa bed. This was rectified when we phoned reception. Breakfast was lovely except the scrambled eggs. Would use again if we were in the area

Flying Dutchman Southampton

13-14 Terminus Terrace, Southampton SO14 3DT, UK – 023 8033 5069

Comfortable. Staff very helpful. Can be a bit noisy as it's over a pub and close to a junction. Quiet after 10 so no sleep disturbance. Breakfast is good. A 15 minute walk into town. Public car park just across the road.

Very belated review i do apologise guys.... i stayed here for 2 weeks back in April/May time... super friendly staff, catered for me at all times making me feel welcome being a Newcastle guy... the girls behind the bar were awesome and had banter, Brian the boss is possibly one of the nicest most accomodating guys i have ever met, and the locals were pretty awesome... overall, nice place, nice people and great stay...

Junction Inn

Priory Rd, Southampton SO17 2JZ, UK – 023 8058 4486

Really friendly welcome. Excellent range of real ales. Spent a very hot evening in the garden. Will be back.

Excellent quality of service and food with a good range of drinks. Live music is played at the weekend.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put done to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Great, brilliant. Wonderful people, very nice atmosphere. I am sure i will come back

Twin Oaks Guest House

43 Upper Northam Rd, Hedge End, Southampton SO30 4EA, UK – 01489 690054

A lovely place to stay. A friendly family with perfect access to the motor way. I recommend this B&B to all.

As allways you get what you are paying for. But i think in this case a bit more. Really nice breakfast, the landlady was really friendly. Maybe not the most top modern b&b, but if you want a good night sleep and a nice breakfast for a low price i do recomend twin oaks guesthouse.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Town Or Country

60 Oxford St, Southampton SO14 3DL, UK – 023 8088 1000

Excellent place to find a small flat rate than hotel room. V clean and neat. I stayed in a studio, lots available. All the equipment you need with cooker, crockery, washing up liquid and even tab for washer/dryer (for clothes). V conveniently located opposite cinema and Tesco local + a few minutes walk from the Quays shopping centre. Staff are not on site but very friendly and helpful. Milan was good enough to meet me at the property on my first day even though I was running late. Only issue is limited parking. Depending on exactly where you are, parking lots are relatively cheap or Tesco is free from 6pm to 2am and outside property free from 8pm to 8am.

I had to spend three nights in Southampton and chose to try one of the new studios in Canute Road managed by Town or Country. For such a short stay it was ideal. Compact yet with all new fittings, its location opposite Ocean Village was perfect. Free laundry facilities are available on site. With the ongoing construction of an adjacent building I had my reservations about staying there. However, these were totally unfounded as the work is in the less noisy latter stages of completion. I was not disturbed by noise and had three good night's sleep. At the current rate available online it is a very good deal.
