434 Bitterne Rd, Southampton SO18 1BS, UK – 0800 030 4321

This is a fairly small local branch of Santander with a modern, minimalist interior. From my experience the staff are efficient, polite and friendly and have always dealt with my transactions well.

Good staff, always helpful. I don't like the new loud ATM though!

Local Chambers of Commerce for SO19 6FH. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. Always professional and friendly!

Inspired Dentistry

1-2 Cerne Cl, West End, Southampton SO18 3NG, UK – 023 8032 8888

I had a smile make over by Dr Adnan Rehman and I am very happy with the result. The procedure was painless and my temporary crowns looked like real teeth which helped ease some of my fears thinking what my teeth would look like before permanent crowns were fitted. I would definitely recommend Dr Adnan Rehman and his team to anyone that would like to have their smile improved. 5* treatment and patient care, keep up the good work!

Brilliant dental practice with really great people! Thank you for the professional service

Quality and Caring Dentistry

Botley Rd, West End, Southampton SO30 3HA, UK – 023 8046 5391

Quality and Caring have been our family dentist for at least 10 years. We have always been able to get convenient appointments easily and have been fitted in the same day when an urgent appointment has been necessary. The staff are pleasant and courteous which makes for a welcoming and friendly environment. This is especially reassuring for our children when they are apprehensive. The advice and treatment received has been first class even as NHS patients. When private treatment has been necessary the options were clearly explained and the charges were very reasonable. I cannot fault the treatment and aftercare service received. I can highly recommend this dental practice and personally would not go anywhere else.

Extremely professional and helpful surgery. The receptionists, dental nurse and hygienist are excellent. Good lines of communication with electronic reminders for appointments Dr Anshu is considerate, gentle and thorough in her examination and practice. She clearly leads her team well and keeps up to date with ongoing educational exemplified by the services she offers. Firmly a favourite in our family.

Thornhill Doctors Surgery

Pepys Ave, Southampton SO19 6PJ, UK – 023 8044 8380

A busy surgery but all the staff are efficient and courteous. A recent refit in the downstairs waiting area brings a splash of colour and more space to wait in. There is a free car park on site which can fill quickly but there is often on street parking available too.

I've always been seen on the same day. Helpful staff and great doctors and nurse

Ladies Walk Practice

90 Thornhill Park Rd, Southampton SO18 5TS, UK – 023 8046 2492

Not sure this is the best place to share your experience, the NHS site is more accurate. I joined the Thornhill surgery a year ago as Bitterne was absolutely dire. Yes they can take time to answer the phone here but that aside the admin care I have received there is about as good as you can expect across the country at the moment. Plus side is the doctors and nurses actually listen and act on your concerns. Downside is the lack of privacy at reception which needs redesigning.

Bursledon Surgery

Lowford Centre, Portsmouth Rd, Bursledon, Southampton SO31 8ES, UK – 023 8040 4671

I have recently moved to the area and joined this surgery. I have been a couple of times already and the service has been so great. The staff on the desk, phone and the doctor have been sensitive, helpful and so friendly which isn't always easy to do in this line of work. The job they do is stretched as we all know nowadays but the way they have been with me has not reflected the current climate. Thank you :)

Whilst the facilities are a lot better than the old converted bungalow on Bursledon Road, unless you pay a personal visit or register online, getting an appointment through the phone system is a nightmare - there are too many menu items and you can only book appointments over the phone after a certain time. With only one GP now, much of the workload is triaged to the practice nurses who all do a stellar job. Another upside to the new location is parking - the old site was very limited, but the new location shares a large car park with the community centre. The surgery is on the first floor which is accessible by wide stairs or a lift. There is a self check in screen at the top of the stairs, which I use all the time. You can register with the Patient Access website to book appointments and renew prescriptions, but you will have to get a letter from the surgery first which will provide some log on details.

NHS Direct is now NHS 24. Just dial 111 to speak to a professional or click the link below for there self help website. Lots of really useful info but keep clear of heart surgery! If in doubt ask your GP or call 111. Good luck.

Southampton NHS Treatment Centre

Level C, Royal South Hants Hospital, Brintons Terrace, Southampton SO14 0YG, UK – 0333 321 8269

Consultation available over Christmas but as so often with the NHS, different advice offered from each service we were sent to.

I received fantastic service from the staff and felt the hospital was clean and neat.

Royal South Hants Hospital

Brintons Terrace, Southampton SO14 0YG, UK – 023 8054 0087

Fairly low waiting times and well equipped hospital. The staff are always super friendly here and they have some walk in clinics for sexual health and minor injuries.

The service inside is efficient and the building is clean but the car parking signage and access is very poor. Confusing layout funnels the driving visitors into the staff only parking and poorly positioned signs don't assist the visitor to find usable spaces. The access to the complex is via a one way traffic system that only compounds any problems. Great internal building in the wrong place.

The new NHS website below is very well worth a look. Hospitals are not only listed but evaluated. I certainly know which ones I would go to! At the very least you will know what questions to ask if you are sent to one which has not entered its data. Good luck!

From the moment i walked in there i was loved, the congregation are friendly and happy, with a lovely family feel to it. Services start at 10am, and are filled with the spirit of the Lord.

Portswood Church

Portswood Rd, Southampton SO17 2FY, UK – 023 8039 9658

Great Church and really friendly people there. As at May 2018, the church starts at 10 and last for an hour and half. The music is a mix of contemporary, hyms and everything in between. Their are different children groups for all ages so the kids have something at their level which is great.

A good place to be for all ages. Activities include a Tuesday morning toddler group, a Thursday morning community cafe, as well as Sunday morning services with children's groups for all ages. A great place to get involved.

Saint Mary's Church

St Mary St, Southampton SO14 1AQ, UK – 023 8033 0851

Idyllically located within the walls of Portchester Castle. Lovely living church with masses of history. The adjoining tearoom is a delight. Dogs are allowed at the tables at the back of the church but not in the tearoom itself. There is a water bowl and a jar of treats for canine friends.

Great place to take your lunch break, just to sit in the grounds and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Find Recycling Centres

Netley Household Waste Recycling Centre

Grange Rd, Netley, Southampton SO31 5FF, UK – 023 8040 3960

The staff are very helpful. They are always polite. I believe they are open up to 5pm.

Not as good as West Sussex sites. Quite a few things are chargeable. Quite small site. Needs a few more parking bays. Very busy site. Overall, tidy place and staff members are helpful. You have to pay for ceramics, rubble, soil, plaster, asbestos.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Southampton

Pizza Hut Restaurants

Unit R1, Tollbar Way, Southampton SO30 2JN, UK – 01489 799755

Friendly staff. Fast service to be seated and to order. Granted it wasn’t a busy time, so can’t comment on the popular times. There was 3 of us, including a young child. She was given paper and crayons which helped to keep her entertained. The venue has quite a modern look and feel on the inside and does have its own ice cream factory (not seen one of these in ears). The food was great - came to about £50 for us 3 (but we did eat a lot). Good location to the hotel we were staying in. Would recommend if you want a good service and nice meal.

Friendly staff, great service, great food (very filling! Only had 9 inch pizza n salad bowl but full all day!) Free salad as many times as you want and free refills on drinks. Strawberry coke and cherry coke very nice ☺ Really pleased we chose here to eat ☺ also very reasonable price ☺

Banana Wharf Ocean Village

33 Channel Way, Southampton SO14 3JF, UK – 023 8033 8866

I have been here many of times good service especially from Kira who recently served me. She is a natural at her job and she offers exceptional customer service and she always has a smile on her face while doing that. A true asset to the company she works for!

Fantastic restaurant with great welcome from staff and service with a smile. Comfortable surroundings on the marina at ocean village. Food was absolutely amazing a little pricey though if your on a budget!

Ironside House, Southampton SO14 3TN, UK – 023 8033 3221

Exceptionally delicious. Fresh food comes out when it's ready. Great size small plates with tons of flavour. Good cocktail and wine list. Service was friendly and not overbearing. No complaints whatsoever! Totally recommend a visit.

Really really nice food, welcoming atmosphere and the staff are super helpful. Remarkably reasonably priced for the quality of restaurant. Would reccomend 👏👌👍

St Mary's Independent School

57 Midanbury Ln, Southampton SO18 4DJ, UK – 023 8067 1267

My daughter has continued to flourish since joining in St Mary's last September. She is academically challenged to learn and research. She participates in many activities. She loves her art and music most. This is a very small and caring school and this is the reason we chose here and we are not disappointed. The management team are very hands on. They resolve matters very quickly and keep parents informed. I also want to mention our bus driver is very agreeable and the school lunch is tasty with generous portion. My daughter has enjoyed going to school every day and made good friends. Thank you St Mary.

An amazing school where the teachers nurture and respect the children which creates a wonderful environment that supports personal growth as well as academic achievements . Proud to say my children attend this school.
